Cameroon and Ethiopia played out a goalless draw in their second Group B match at Huye Stadium on Thursday evening.
Ethiopia’s Mulualem Tilahun got to the end of a Yiech Gatoch Panom through pass for his side’s first chance at scoring but his shot went over the bar.
The Walias showed intent from the onset as they mounted pressured on Cameroon as Elias Mamo sent another shot over the bar. Cameroon goalkeeper Patrick Hugo was then tested by Tilahun but the custodian was alert enough to pick it up easily.
The Lions grew into the game with Frank Boya forcing a save from Ethiopian goalkeeper Abel Mamo.
Cameroon coach Martin Mpile Ndtoungou replaced Boya with Stephan Kingue Mpondo who brought creativity into the Lions’ midfield.
The Lions enjoyed a good run of form as eventual man-of-the-match Yazid Atouba Emane had an attempt at goal but it went wide before Nicholas Moumi's free header was off target.
Ethiopian defender Yared Belay fouled Moussa Souleymanu but Atouba was unlucky when the resulting free kick came within inches of finding the back of the net.
Both coaches made late changes as Elias Mamo came on for Tadele Mengesha for Ethiopia before Anthony Mfede was introduced for Atouba for Cameroon.
Afesse Tesfaye replaced Tilahun in injury time as the two sides played out a goalless draw that ensured Cameroon are in second place in Group B with four points.
Table leaders DR Congo have six points after their 4-2 win over Angola earlier in the day. The Leopards joined Rwanda in the quarterfinals while Angola became the first team to be eliminated from the biennial tournament.
