Warri Wolves and Akwa United have been penciled down to kickoff the upcoming Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 4 tournament.
The first leg of the tournament will hold through Wednesday – Sunday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna while the second round will take place at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium (Nest of Champions) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state from February 01 – 05.
The football showpiece which involves the country’s representatives at the continent namely NPFL champions, Enyimba and runners-up, Warri Wolves, third-placed Nasarawa United and Federation Cup winners, Akwa United is meant to serve as a shape up for these clubs
The draws for the first leg by the league body, LMC show that NPFL champions, Enyimba will take on second runners-up, Nasarawa United for the second fixture of match day 1 clash.
The clubs will observe a rest day on Thursday, January 21 and return to action again on Friday with late kickoff that will see Akwa United tackle Enyimba in the first game while Warri Wolves take on Nasarawa United in the second late match.
“We have scheduled the late kickoff on that Friday to enable Nigerians watch the Super Eagles play their Tunisian counterparts in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.
“We consider it as part of the development of the league for players in the NPFL to watch their teammates represent the country in international competitions.
“Seeing their mates will fire up their own aspiration to up their game and also be in a position to make the national team,” said the LMC boss, Salihu Abubakar.
On the last day of the tournament, Nasarawa United and Akwa United will play the first game while the closing fixture clash will be between the People’s Elephant and Seasiders.
